چکیده

Indian mustard [Brassica juncea (L.) Czern & Coss] is one of the most important oilseed crops worldwide yet drought and salinity stress significantly reduced its growth yield. The research was carried out in order to test effect on osmoprotectants (total soluble sugars, proline), antioxidant molecules (ascorbate, ?-tocopherol) ionic content from dry sample leaves introgression lines varieties Brassica juncea. Permanent saline plots are maintained field soil sciences where different doses sodium carbonate were given maintain relative bicarbonate (RSC) three levels. results revealed significant biochemical attributes as well content. Increase total proline, ascorbate, ?-tocopherol Na+ ion whereas rest ions Ca2+, Mg2+ K+ decreased with increased Increased accumulation Na+/K+ ratio K+/Na+. Significant finding among low high correspondingly K+/Na+ ratio. Decreased calcium magnesium resulted decline chlorophyll membrane stability under conditions while concentration regulated opening closing stomata thus hampering photosynthesis.

Overexpression of the Glyoxalase II Gene Leads to Enhanced Salinity Tolerance in Brassica Juncea

Engineering of salinity tolerance in agronomically important crop plants is required to increase their productivity by enabling them to grow in saline soils, which are otherwise left uncultivated. Since an increase in the enzymes of glyoxalase system has been shown to impart salinity tolerance in the model plant tobacco, we used the glyoxalase II gene for engineering salinity tolerance in an im...

Thiourea priming enhances salt tolerance through co-ordinated regulation of microRNAs and hormones in Brassica juncea

Activation of stress tolerance mechanisms demands transcriptional reprogramming. Salt stress, a major threat to plant growth, enhances ROS production and affects transcription through modulation of miRNAs and hormones. The present study delineates salt stress ameliorating action of thiourea (TU, a ROS scavenger) in Brassica juncea and provides mechanistic link between redox, microRNA and hormon...

Development of transgenic Brassica juncea lines for reduced seed sinapine content by perturbing phenylpropanoid pathway genes

Sinapine is a major anti-nutritive compound that accumulates in the seeds of Brassica species. When ingested, sinapine imparts gritty flavuor in meat and milk of animals and fishy odor to eggs of brown egg layers, thereby compromising the potential use of the valuable protein rich seed meal. Sinapine content in Brassica juncea germplasm ranges from 6.7 to 15.1 mg/g of dry seed weight (DSW) whic...

Effect of 28-homobrassinolide on growth, zinc metal uptake and antioxidative enzyme activities in Brassica juncea L. seedlings

The present work was undertaken to study the effects of 28-homobrassinolide on growth, zinc metal uptake, antioxidative enzyme [guaiacol peroxidase (EC 1.11.1.7), catalase (EC 1.11.1.6), glutathione reductase (EC 1.6.4.2), ascorbate peroxidase (EC 1.11.1.11), superoxide dismutase (EC 1.15.1.1)] activities and protein content in 7-d-old seedlings of Brassica juncea L. treated with Zn metal at di...

Cytogenetic and Molecular Characterization of B-Genome Introgression Lines of Brassica napus L.

Brassica napus introgression lines (ILs), having B-genome segments from B. carinata, were assessed genetically for extent of introgression and phenotypically for siliqua shatter resistance. Introgression lines had 7-9% higher DNA content, were meiotically stable, and had almost normal pollen fertility/seed set. Segment introgressions were confirmed by fluorescent genomic in situ hybridization (...
